VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Virginia Beach Police are investigating a shooting that took place near a Harris Teeter Wednesday morning.
Police were on the scene of the shooting in the 5000 block of Ferrell Parkway. A News 3 Photojournalist was in the area and took pictures of the scene which was near a Harris Teeter.
After a police investigation officers said they received reports that someone had been shot in a parking lot in the 5000 block of Ferrell Parkway around 8 a.m.
An adult male was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound and the shooter stayed on scene to speak with officers, according to police.
The preliminary investigation indicated that an adult male who police named as the suspect approached and lunged at another male who they named as the victim with a knife.
The victim, who possesses a concealed carry permit and was armed and shot the suspect, police said. The shooter stayed on scene to cooperate with investigators and the individual who was armed with a knife was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
This is an ongoing, active investigation and will require consultation with the Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney, according to police.
News 3 covered a shooting at the same Harris Teeter location in 2018. The shooting was a result of a robbery and left the store manager injured. Four men were arrested in connection to that incident. As a result of that shooting, the Harris Teeter location changed its store hours to close at 11 p.m. instead of being open 24 hours.
